Organized by the Ministry of Environment, this challenge is part of a nationwide practical movement aimed at forming social consensus and encouraging voluntary participation by members through actively promoting the reduction of single-use product usage and the habitual use of reusable products to save resources and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
Through the challenge, President Shin promised to △reduce the use of disposable cups and PET bottles △use reusable cups and tumblers △minimize waste at work sites and introduce recycling and eco-friendly materials. He nominated Song Ha-cheol, president of Mokpo National University, as the next participant to continue the challenge.
President Shin stated, “As a leading local company, we will actively participate in reducing single-use products to practice ESG management and take the lead in establishing a culture of resource circulation and environmental protection.”
Meanwhile, Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries has been actively working to reduce waste and environmental pollutants, such as providing employees with work uniforms made from recycled fibers derived from waste PET bottles.
In March, the company operated a facility that reproduces various wastes, including waste styrofoam generated during the import process of major ship equipment, into alternative raw materials for plastic products and alternative fuels for cement calcination, marking a first in the shipbuilding industry.
In particular, last September, the company contributed to environmental protection and the creation of a resource recycling ecosystem by becoming the first in the industry to obtain the ‘Scrap Metal Circular Resource Certification.’
