Jo Eung-cheon "Lee Jae-myung's Prison Nomination? Will They Hold a Supreme Meeting in the Detention Center?"

Sangmin Lee on Mentioning 'Bundang': "That's Going Too Far"

As the judicial risks surrounding Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, have come to the surface, a 'Plan B' to prepare for his potential detention is being discussed mainly among his pro-Lee (Chinmyeong) faction. Meanwhile, Cho Eung-cheon, a non-Lee (Bimyeong) Democratic Party lawmaker, expressed skepticism, saying, "If he is detained but still tries to maintain control of the Democratic Party by putting forward an avatar and creating a Plan B, how do you think the public will view that?"

On the 28th, Cho said on KBS's 'Choi Kyung-young's Strong Current Affairs,' "(Even if the leader is detained,) it seems they are talking about continuing to form and lead a leadership team dominated by the pro-Lee faction. But the leader himself has spent a year at the forefront as the face of our Democratic Party, and isn't the result like this now?"

He added, "There are talks about not stepping down from the leadership position and even about nominations from prison, but after all, he is not the party president but the leader. It is a collective leadership system," and said, "Even if the leader's intentions are important, decisions are made through the Supreme Council meetings. If he is detained, do all the Supreme Council members go to the detention center every time to hold a meeting?"

Regarding Bimyeong lawmaker Lee Sang-min's recent comment that "the Democratic Party will not split only if the leader steps down, and many lawmakers have decided on their positions," Cho said, "Rather than actively stepping down, there are various risks now, and it would help the party if he acts naturally in response to them," adding, "To prevent voters from scattering and to avoid party division, the leader must conduct himself with a sense of responsibility."

However, about the possibility of a party split, he said, "That seems a bit too far-fetched," and added, "In any case, we are continuously seeking the best way to prevent party division and not disappoint party members."
