Kim Ki-hyun, leader of the People Power Party, officially requested on the 28th to designate October 2 as a temporary public holiday.

If October 2 is designated as a temporary public holiday, it will create a total of six consecutive days off, including the four-day Chuseok holiday from September 28 to October 1 and the National Foundation Day on October 3.

At the Supreme Council meeting held at the National Assembly that day, Kim said, "The great national holiday, Chuseok, is just a month away. I officially request that October 2, a non-holiday during the bridge period between the Chuseok holiday and National Foundation Day, be designated as a temporary public holiday."

He added, "I hope that by designating the 2nd as a temporary public holiday, it will become a national holiday where families, relatives, and neighbors can warmly share affection after a long time," and said, "It is expected to have a positive effect in terms of guaranteeing sufficient rest for the people, boosting domestic demand, and revitalizing consumption." He also mentioned, "A reduction in travel time due to traffic volume dispersion is also anticipated."

Kim emphasized, "Since many schools and kindergartens designate this day as a discretionary holiday, I hope October 2 will be designated as a temporary public holiday to prevent care gaps for dual-income couples."
