Gangbuk-gu Provides 1 Million Won Postpartum Care Expense Support Per Newborn

Gangbuk-gu Provides 1 Million Won Postpartum Care Expense Support Per Newborn

Gangbuk-gu, Seoul (Mayor Lee Soon-hee) will provide 1 million KRW in postpartum care expenses per newborn to families giving birth starting in September. This project is co-funded 50% each by Seoul City and Gangbuk-gu, and will be applied retroactively to newborns born after July 1.

The support targets mothers residing in Seoul for at least six months as of the application date, who have registered their newborns in Seoul and live in Gangbuk-gu. Foreign pregnant women from multicultural families are also eligible, but cases where both spouses are foreigners are excluded.

The support amount is 1 million KRW per newborn. It will be provided in the form of vouchers on credit or debit cards issued in the mother’s name (Shinhan, Samsung, KB Kookmin, Woori, BC cards, etc., which are Seoul City partner companies). In the case of twins, 2 million KRW will be provided, and for triplets, up to 3 million KRW.

The vouchers can be used for ▲mother and newborn health care services (up to 500,000 KRW, with a 10% co-payment) ▲purchase of medicines, herbal medicine, and health supplements ▲postpartum exercise classes such as body shape management, swelling care, postpartum depression screening and counseling treatment, etc.

The usage period for mother and newborn health care services is up to 60 days from the date of birth, and for other services, until the end of the month six months after the voucher issuance date. Vouchers cannot be used for basic postpartum care center fees but can be used for postpartum exercise classes such as body shape correction and swelling care within postpartum care centers.

Mothers wishing to apply must do so within 60 days from the date of birth via the Seoul Mom Care website or by visiting the local community service center with their ID and credit/debit card in their name. Mothers who gave birth in July or August have until October 31 to apply.

Lee Soon-hee, Mayor of Gangbuk-gu, said, “We will continue to introduce various projects to make Gangbuk-gu a city good for raising children and to increase the birth rate.”
