'2023 Busan International Medical Tourism Convention' Held ... Opening Ceremony at 11 AM on September 1

Busan City will hold the "2023 Busan International Medical Tourism Convention" for two days from September 1 to 2 at BEXCO Exhibition Hall 1 in Haeundae.

Now in its 15th year, the "Busan International Medical Tourism Convention" is an international medical and tourism exhibition jointly hosted by Busan City and Busan Ilbo, and organized by the Busan Medical Industry Council.

The event features a variety of programs including ▲exhibition events ▲international academic events and seminars ▲health lectures by renowned experts ▲business meetings with overseas buyers. Major events can be viewed live on the Busan Ilbo YouTube channel.

The exhibition will be operated with four exhibition halls: Medical Tourism Hall, Medical Experience Hall, Medical Industry Hall, and Tourism Industry Hall, with about 200 booths from 120 companies across 18 countries.

In particular, this exhibition will operate a promotional hall for the 2030 Busan World Expo bid and display T-shirts designed with the flags and national flowers of the member countries of the International Bureau of Expositions (BIE), showing overseas buyers and visitors the hope for Busan’s successful bid for the 2030 World Expo.

Citizens visiting the exhibition can also experience various medical demonstrations such as hearing aid trials for hearing loss, thyroid examinations, and extracorporeal shock wave therapy demonstrations offered by medical institutions.

At the international academic events and seminars, an anti-aging medical tourism international academic forum and a K-Beauty-based cosmedi beauty seminar will be held. Makeup shows featuring makeup artists Hwang Bang-hoon and Ham Kyung-sik will also take place.

In the health lectures by renowned experts, orthopedic specialists from Busan Goryeo Hospital will conduct spine and knee exercise classes focusing on joint self-diagnosis and prevention, as well as effective self-exercise methods for rehabilitation.

At the overseas buyer business meetings, overseas buyers and local medical institutions will meet through a pre-arranged mutual matching system. A total of 82 overseas buyers from 18 countries including Vietnam, Mongolia, and Kazakhstan are invited, raising expectations for substantial outcomes.

Additionally, various participatory events such as children's cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and K-POP Pilates, along with generous prize giveaways, are prepared.

The opening ceremony will be held at 11 a.m. on September 1, attended by domestic and international medical tourism stakeholders, featuring performances such as Taepyeongso and Samulnori, as well as the Medical Industry Awards ceremony.

Especially at this opening ceremony, performances by university student supporters cheering for the 2030 Busan World Expo bid can be seen.

Mayor Park Hyung-jun stated, “The medical tourism industry is a future growth engine that generates significant economic ripple effects not only through treatment of foreign patients but also by linking shopping, accommodation, and tourism,” adding, “With growing interest and demand for medical tourism as daily life recovers, I hope this event will serve as an opportunity for Busan to leap forward as a global medical tourism hub.”
