September 6-10 Gangnam Art Promotion Booth at KIAF·Frieze Seoul... Media Art Exhibition by Artist Kim Wooyoung -
Gangnam-gu (District Mayor Jo Seong-myeong) is partnering with the global art fair ‘2023 KIAF·Frieze Seoul,’ held from September 6 to 10, to operate the exhibition tour project ‘Gangnam Art’ with local galleries from August 25 to September 9.
‘Gangnam Art’ is a cultural and artistic program planned by Gangnam-gu to promote culture and arts and revitalize the local economy in collaboration with 150 galleries in the area. It offers various exhibition tours such as gallery docent tours, curated exhibitions, and art concerts, and carries out public art projects with talented domestic artists. Last August, the district signed a business agreement with KIAF·Frieze to operate Gangnam Art during the art fair period to create synergy effects.
This year’s gallery tours have been expanded compared to last year, involving 34 galleries in the Sinsa, Apgujeong, Cheongdam, and Samseong areas. From August 25 to September 9, visitors can appreciate artworks at the galleries and participate in individual or group docent programs. Additionally, a stamp tour is operated where visitors place exhibition viewing certification stickers on the Gangnam Art leaflets available at the galleries. Those who collect 7 or more stamps will receive one KIAF·Frieze Seoul ticket worth approximately 80,000 KRW on a first-come, first-served basis, and those with 3 or more stamps will be given one eco bag created in collaboration with artist Kim Woo-young, an exhibiting artist at the KIAF·Frieze Gangnam Art Hall. Gifts can be collected at the COEX information desk.
Furthermore, a new Gangnam Art program called ‘Cheongdam Night’ will be introduced. On September 6, 18 famous galleries in Cheongdam-dong, including SongEun and Koenig Seoul, will open from 7 PM to midnight, hosting nighttime exhibitions, artist meet-and-greets, wine tastings, DJ parties, and cocktail receptions, turning the Gangnam area into a night of art.
As part of the public art project, from September 6 to 10, a media art exhibition by artist Kim Woo-young will be held at the KIAF Seoul Gangnam Art Promotion Hall. Kim Woo-young, a first-generation photographer in domestic advertising photography, showcases a world of work expressing urban and natural landscapes with strong lines and planes and vivid colors.
Jo Seong-myeong, Mayor of Gangnam-gu, stated, “We have prepared programs and events that allow global galleries and art enthusiasts visiting the large-scale art fair to also enjoy the excellent galleries in Gangnam-gu,” adding, “We will continue to collaborate with outstanding local galleries to widely promote Gangnam as a global art city.”
