Jungbu and Sinjungbu Market Dried Seafood Beer Festival Held

Jungbu and Sinjungbu Market Dried Seafood Beer Festival Held

At the end of summer, exhausted by the long rainy season and heatwave, Jung-gu District Office in Seoul (Mayor Kim Gil-seong) is hosting the ‘Jungbu and Sinjungbu Market Dried Seafood Beer Festival’ to cool down the heat.

Now in its 6th year, the Dried Seafood Beer Festival combines the main products of Jungbu and Sinjungbu Markets?dried seafood?with beer, the perfect beverage to accompany them.

On September 1st, from 6:30 PM to 9 PM, seats will be set up around Gate 1 of Jungbu and Sinjungbu Markets to welcome guests.

The dried seafood sold at Jungbu and Sinjungbu Markets comes in a wide variety and is fresh with a moist texture, making it an excellent choice as a snack. The merchants’ association plans to sell snacks such as jupo (dried filefish), meoktae (dried pollack), and nuts in small, convenient packages at affordable prices. Following last year’s tradition, beer will be provided free of charge to all visitors. This year, with a greater focus on the environment, 1,000 reusable beer cups will also be prepared.

There will also be performances to boost the festive mood. Twin comedians Lee Sang-ho and Lee Sang-min (Trotdungi), Hyodream Gugak Arts, Han Jae-wook, Rida, and Baek Gang-san will take the stage to deliver refreshing and lively performances.

Established in 1959, Jungbu and Sinjungbu Markets boast a long history and tradition as Korea’s number one dried seafood district. To expand their customer base to younger generations, foreigners, and tourists, the markets have gained popularity by holding the dried seafood beer festival once a year. The festival is hosted by the Jungbu and Sinjungbu Market Merchants’ Association and supported by the Small Enterprise and Market Service and Seoul Jung-gu District Office.

Kim Gil-seong, Mayor of Jung-gu, said, “Jungbu and Sinjungbu Markets are famous for dried seafood snacks such as gim (seaweed), anchovies, squid, and jupo and nuts, which are indispensable side dishes on our tables and perfect beer snacks. We hope that this dried seafood beer festival will help spread the high-quality products of Jungbu and Sinjungbu Markets widely across the world.”
