Dongwon F&B announced on the 24th that it is entering the plant-based canned ham market with the launch of 'My Plant Original,' a plant-based canned ham.

My Plant Original is made from 100% plant-based ingredients, contains zero cholesterol, and has the lowest calorie content (175 kcal/100g) among domestic plant-based canned hams, the company explained. It has over 40% fewer calories compared to Dongwon F&B's existing animal-based canned ham, 'Richam.'

My Plant Original incorporates all the technology and know-how accumulated by Dongwon F&B over 20 years of manufacturing and producing the animal-based canned ham Richam. The product uses the 'Desalt' technology, independently developed in 2018, to reduce sodium content while maintaining the salty taste, thereby preserving the original flavor of canned ham. Additionally, through in-house testing, the optimal ingredient blend ratio was identified to significantly reduce the common soybean odor found in plant-based products. Unlike most alternative meat products that are frozen or refrigerated, My Plant Original can be stored at room temperature.

With the launch of My Plant Original, Dongwon F&B's canned ham portfolio has been strengthened. Currently, Dongwon F&B is the only food company in Korea that has established a diverse product lineup spanning pork (Richam Original and Double Light), chicken (Richam Protein), and plant-based options.

We will leverage the existing export infrastructure of Richam to target overseas markets and lead the popularization of alternative meat."
