The Center noted the shift in tourism trends after COVID-19 towards regional tourism that seeks the uniqueness and distinctive experiences of local areas rather than standardized tourist destinations.
Accordingly, it invited regional tourism development officials from Korea and 10 ASEAN countries to introduce the current status and best practices of sustainable regional tourism policies and to promote tourism exchanges between Korea and ASEAN.
At this seminar, under the theme of "Regional Tourism Development," Jeong Seon-hee, Director of Digital Innovation at the Korea Tourism Organization, Park Jun-gyu, CEO of Yangyang Surf Beach, and Lee Jeong-mi, Vice President of Jeju Haenyeo’s Kitchen, participated to share experiences from both the public and private sectors.
The seminar presentations covered ▲ the Korea Tourism Organization’s "Current Status and Analysis of Sustainable Regional Tourism Policy Development Based on Big Data," highlighting the changing tourism landscape in Korea in the post-COVID era ▲ and introduced the "Sustainable Regional Tourism Success Stories" of Yangyang Surf Beach and Jeju Haenyeo’s Kitchen, which are recognized as representative successful cases of domestic regional tourism, along with the appeal of diverse regional tourism content based on storytelling and creative strategies.
Kim Hae-yong, Secretary-General of the Korea-ASEAN Center, stated, "In line with tourism trends focusing on the unique charm of regions, I believe this seminar served as a platform for Korea and ASEAN to respond to new changes in tourism demand and to explore new ideas for Korea-ASEAN regional tourism cooperation."
Along with the introduction of regional tourism policies from the 10 ASEAN countries, the seminar also announced the "Top 50 ASEAN Regional Tourist Destinations You Must Visit This Year."
