'Start of the "Seoul-type Postpartum Care Expense Support" Project'
The Seoul Metropolitan Government announced on the 23rd that it will officially launch the ‘Seoul-type Postpartum Care Expense Support’ program for all mothers who need physical and mental health recovery after childbirth starting from the 1st of next month.
The ‘Seoul-type Postpartum Care Expense Support’ program provides vouchers worth approximately 1 million KRW per newborn to help mothers receive sufficient care and quickly recover from the emotional and physical fatigue experienced during childbirth. Mothers who give birth to twins (ssangsaeng-a) will receive support worth 2 million KRW, and mothers who give birth to triplets or more will receive support worth 3 million KRW.
The Seoul Metropolitan Government plans to support all mothers regardless of income criteria to help them quickly regain their health, as a mother’s lifelong health depends on how she recovers physically and mentally after childbirth.
The vouchers can be used for ▲ postpartum care services where health managers visit homes to assist mothers and newborns, ▲ purchase of medicines, herbal medicine, and health supplements necessary for postpartum health recovery, and ▲ postpartum exercise classes including yoga, Pilates, body shape management, swelling management, and hair loss care.
Applications for the ‘Seoul-type Postpartum Care Expense Support’ are open to any mother who gave birth on or after July 1 of this year, has registered the child’s birth in Seoul, and has resided in Seoul for at least six months as of the application date, regardless of income.
Applications can be submitted online through ‘Seoul Mom Care’ starting from the 1st of next month, or by visiting the local community service center. Online applications do not require any additional documents, and for in-person applications at the community center, applicants must bring an ID and a mobile phone for identity verification.
Kim Seon-soon, Director of the Seoul Metropolitan Government’s Women and Family Policy Office, said, “To overcome the unprecedented low birthrate situation, following last August’s ‘Mom and Dad Happiness Project,’ this year we are promoting various policies that provide comprehensive support throughout the entire process from pregnancy to childbirth and parenting for infertile couples, pregnant women, newlyweds, and families with multiple children. The Seoul-type Postpartum Care Expense Support is a program designed to help mothers who have gone through the meaningful journey of pregnancy and childbirth recover their physical and mental health as quickly as possible. We hope many families with newborns will actively apply.”
