A 7th-grade public official was booked by the police after posting threatening messages mentioning a specific company following losses from investing in stocks related to superconductors.

According to the Cyber Investigation Unit of the Gyeonggi Nambu Provincial Police Agency, the Bucheon Wonmi Police Station booked and investigated Mr. A, a man in his 30s and a 7th-grade public official affiliated with Bucheon City Hall, on the 22nd on charges of intimidation without detention.

Mr. A is accused of posting a message around 2 p.m. the previous day on an online community saying, "Looking for people to visit Company B. Let's gather with spears." Company B is a firm related to a material presumed to be a superconductor.

After receiving a report about the threatening post targeting the company, the police increased patrols around the company’s vicinity. Upon learning that his post had been reported to the police, Mr. A surrendered by phone. He was apprehended by the police at around 5:15 p.m.

During the police investigation, Mr. A stated that he was dissatisfied because he lost tens of millions of won after investing 100 million won in stocks related to superconductors. Regarding the reason for posting the threatening message, he explained, "There have been many recent stabbing reports, so I wanted to attract attention."

Company B is known as the firm that claimed to have developed the world's first room-temperature and ambient-pressure superconductor presumed material. The police plan to strengthen security measures such as foot patrols and checkpoint inspections near this company for the time being.

One of the related stocks, Sinseong Delta Tech, closed at 54,600 won on the 22nd. This was an increase of 12,600 won (30.00%) compared to the previous trading day, marking both the lower and upper price limits within two days.

Earlier, on the 17th, the international academic journal Nature introduced a skeptical research result stating that superconducting properties could not be found in the material previously presumed to be a superconductor.

Meanwhile, the Korean Society of Superconductivity and Cryogenics plans to hold a closed-door meeting over two days from the 23rd to the 24th regarding the material in question.
