The KOSPI, which started higher, gave up its gains due to net selling by institutions and closed the session.
On the 22nd, the KOSPI closed at 2,515.74, up 6.94 points (0.28%) from the previous trading day.
That day, the KOSPI opened nearly 1% higher as the Nasdaq rebounded after five trading days. However, with continued selling by foreigners and institutions switching to net selling, most of the gains were surrendered by the close.
By investor type, foreigners and institutions net sold 40.4 billion KRW and 5.6 billion KRW respectively. Meanwhile, individuals net bought 49.4 billion KRW.
By sector, iron ore and metals rose 1.23%. Securities, electrical and electronics, and service industries also saw slight increases. Conversely, non-metallic minerals and transportation and warehousing fell more than 1%.
Most of the top market capitalization stocks rose. Samsung Electronics closed unchanged at 66,600 KRW. NAVER jumped 3.03%, while LG Energy Solution and POSCO Future M rose more than 2%. POSCO Holdings and Samsung SDI also increased by over 1%. On the other hand, Samsung Biologics fell 0.64%.
On the KOSPI, 376 stocks rose without any hitting the upper limit. Including Kyungdong Invest, which hit the lower limit, 499 stocks declined, and 58 stocks remained unchanged.
The KOSDAQ closed at 893.33, up 4.62 points (0.52%) from the previous trading day.
By investor type, individuals and institutions net sold 1.1 billion KRW and 48.1 billion KRW respectively. Foreigners, however, net bought 63.7 billion KRW.
By sector, finance surged 5.86%, while general electrical and electronics and food & tobacco rose 2.32% and 1.96% respectively. Conversely, semiconductors fell 2.05%, and computer services, metals, and broadcasting services declined more than 1%.
Among the top market cap stocks, EcoPro closed at 1,261,000 KRW, up 7.32% (86,000 KRW) from the previous day. POSCO DX rose 4.40%. Alteogen and EcoPro BM increased 3.34% and 2.90% respectively. On the other hand, HPSP fell 6.38%, and HLB dropped 4.11%. Celltrion Healthcare declined 2.71%, while JYP Ent. and Celltrion Pharm fell more than 1%.
On the KOSDAQ, including four stocks hitting the upper limit such as Exem and Insanga, 566 stocks rose. Meanwhile, including Amosen, which hit the lower limit, 946 stocks declined, and 80 stocks remained unchanged.
