The Gwangju Design Biennale, the only design biennale in Asia held in Buk-gu and a representative cultural brand of South Korea, will be enhanced with the unique cultural and tourism attractions of Buk-gu.
According to Buk-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City on the 22nd, starting from the 7th of next month, various resident-participatory cultural tourism projects in Buk-gu will be promoted in line with the 10th Gwangju Design Biennale.
This project was prepared to support the successful hosting of the Gwangju Design Biennale and to expand opportunities for local residents to enjoy culture and tourism.
The main project includes the Buk-gu Art Festival, which will be held for 62 days during the biennale in collaboration with the Gwangju Design Center. At the five halls of the Gwangju Biennale Hall, works that reinterpret Buk-gu’s history, culture, and social issues through design by local artists and residents will be exhibited, allowing visitors to learn about and experience Buk-gu in detail.
Additionally, on Fridays during the event period, various resident-participatory cultural events such as media facade content exhibitions, busking, Art Polymarket, and a mat film festival will be held at the plaza of the Biennale exhibition hall. At the plaza of the Gwangju History and Folklore Museum, six performances wishing for the success of the Design Biennale are scheduled.
Furthermore, the Buk-gu Promotion Center will offer AI augmented reality experiences of the eight scenic spots of Buk-gu, the Design Biennale Art Bus will tour major tourist sites in Buk-gu, a stamp tour walking challenge at the biennale venue will be held, and autumn flower pot exhibitions will be displayed along the entrance to the exhibition halls, all aimed at spreading a positive image of Buk-gu to biennale visitors and increasing regional revisit rates.
In addition, holders of biennale admission tickets will receive discounts on performances at the Buk-gu Cultural Center, restaurants, and social enterprise products.
A Buk-gu official stated, "The Gwangju Design Biennale, along with the Gwangju Biennale, is a world-class international art event held in Buk-gu," adding, "Through supporting the successful hosting of this event, we hope to revitalize the region and for visitors to remember Buk-gu as a global cultural and artistic city."
