"Bundang Line to Cheongnyangni Station"... Will the Terminal Be Extended?

Possibility of Single-Track Railway Installation Between Wangsimni and Cheongnyangni Stations
Pre-Feasibility Study Results Expected by Late Next Year
Dongdaemun-gu Holds Meeting with Local Stakeholders

"Bundang Line to Cheongnyangni Station"... Will the Terminal Be Extended?

To increase the current operation of the Suin-Bundang Line between Wangsimni and Cheongnyangni stations, which runs only 9 times a day (5 times on weekends), Dongdaemun-gu Office in Seoul, the local district lawmakers, and civic groups have come together to start discussions. The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport included the "Construction of a Single Track Railway between Wangsimni and Cheongnyangni Stations" project as a new project in the 2021 "4th National Railroad Network Construction Plan," and the preliminary feasibility study results are expected as early as the end of this year.

On the 22nd, Dongdaemun-gu in Seoul announced that it recently held a meeting to discuss the construction of a single track line between Wangsimni and Cheongnyangni stations on the Suin-Bundang Line. About 20 people attended the meeting, including District Mayor Ilhyeong Lee, People Power Party lawmaker Eun-ah Heo, Kim Kyung-jin, the People Power Party Dongdaemun-eul district committee chairman, Dongdaemun-gu council member Jae-seon Lee, and members of the Cheongnyangni Suin-Bundang Line Promotion Committee.

The Suin-Bundang Line used to operate from Incheon Station through Suwon Station and Gangnam-gu Office Station to Wangsimni Station, but since December 2018, it has been extended to Cheongnyangni Station. However, the current operation between Wangsimni and Cheongnyangni stations is limited to 9 times a day (5 times on weekends) one way, causing inconvenience for Dongdaemun-gu residents and citizens using Cheongnyangni Station, who have to take the Gyeongui-Jungang Line to Wangsimni Station and transfer to the Suin-Bundang Line.

At this meeting, they discussed the direction of the project for constructing the single track railway and ways to raise residents' interest. The district expects that if the new railway is built as planned and the number of operations between Wangsimni and Cheongnyangni stations increases, it will greatly enhance residents' convenience and play a significant role in establishing a metropolitan transportation system centered on Cheongnyangni Station in the northeastern region.

Ilhyeong Lee, Mayor of Dongdaemun-gu, said, "Since there is a broad consensus on the necessity of constructing the single track railway between Wangsimni and Cheongnyangni stations, we expect good results," and added, "The district will actively request the prompt promotion of this project to related agencies and will also actively cooperate administratively in any necessary parts during the project implementation process."
