Gochang-gun, Jeonbuk Province, announced on the 22nd that it will hold the "27th Gochang Haepung Chili Pepper Festival" from the 26th to the 27th at the Gochang-gun Agricultural Products Distribution Center area in Gochang-eup.
Gochang Haepung chili peppers grow while exposed to the mineral- and germanium-rich sea breeze from the mudflats, making them resistant to pests and diseases and giving them a thick skin.
They have a distinctive spicy taste and aroma, and have long been renowned as the best chili peppers used for kimchi-making.
During the festival, a direct transaction market will be actively promoted, focusing on chili pepper farmers and organizations within Gochang-gun.
Dried chili peppers and chili powder will be sold at a limited discount of around 10%, providing an opportunity for residents and tourists to purchase high-quality chili peppers at affordable prices.
Using Gochang Haepung chili peppers as the theme, the festival will offer a variety of attractions, food, and hands-on experiences for families to enjoy together, including tourist experience events (such as planting chili seedlings), surprise auctions, and various performances.
County Governor Shim Deok-seop said, "This is a place for producers and consumers to come together, where consumers can directly check and purchase Haepung chili peppers and Gochang agricultural specialties at affordable prices," adding, "We will make this festival one that widely promotes local agricultural specialties and helps revitalize the local economy."
