Gwanak-gu Makes Every Effort to Create a Safe Living Environment Where Residents Can Live with Peace of Mind
Strengthening Joint Patrols by Civil, Police, and Government, Additional Installation of CCTV and Intelligent Control Systems, Expanding Application of Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED), etc.
Gwanak-gu (Mayor Park Junhee) is taking all-out measures to alleviate residents' anxiety caused by recent consecutive crimes and to create a safe living environment.
First, to ensure rapid and thorough response, the “Gwanak-gu Living Safety Dedicated Task Force (TF)” will be formed. Centered on the TF, fundamental countermeasures will be prepared through analysis of the district’s current status, characteristics, and causes, and a “Comprehensive Living Safety Plan” will be systematically implemented.
Additionally, through the local security council, crime prevention measures tailored to each area will be developed and promoted together, and cooperation with the police and private sectors will be actively strengthened to enhance “civil-government-police joint patrols.”
A new “Park Safety Keeper (Park Security Guard)” will be established to focus patrols on parks, trails, and other areas, ensuring immediate response in case of safety incidents. Patrols by autonomous crime prevention teams and female safety escorts for safe return home will also be expanded in vulnerable living safety areas.
CCTV will be additionally installed in vulnerable areas including crime-prone zones, and intelligent control systems that automatically detect specific movements such as violence or collapse will be expanded so that control operators can promptly verify and provide assistance.
In particular, the application of Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) will be gradually expanded in vulnerable areas. Customized living safety designs reflecting residents’ opinions?such as CCTV, SOS emergency bells, LED information boards, painting, and lighting installations tailored to local characteristics?will psychologically and physically block crime opportunities in advance.
Furthermore, ongoing projects for living safety such as autonomous driving-based safety patrols, missing person prevention systems, support for single-person household safety home sets, operation of the Women’s Safety Network “Ansim-i,” safe delivery lockers, and safety keepers will continue to be implemented and expanded.
In addition, efforts will be made to protect crime victims, overcome crime trauma, and support residents’ daily recovery.
Park Junhee, Mayor of Gwanak-gu, said, “It is very heartbreaking to think of the victims and residents feeling anxious due to crime, and as mayor, I feel a heavy responsibility. We will do our best to thoroughly implement safety measures tailored to the characteristics of our district and the needs of residents to create a safe living environment in Gwanak.”
