Geumcheon-gu (Mayor Yoo Seong-hoon) announced that it is recruiting residents to play major roles in the ‘6th King Jeongjo Royal Procession Reenactment Event’ until September 4.
The King Jeongjo Royal Procession reenactment event recreates the large-scale procession in 1795 (the 19th year of King Jeongjo’s reign) when King Jeongjo visited the tomb of his father, Crown Prince Sado, accompanied by his mother, Lady Hyegyeong Hong.
The procession will take place over a 57 km route starting from Changdeokgung Palace in Seoul on October 8, passing through Siheung Haenggung in Geumcheon-gu, and ending at Yungneung and Geonneung in Hwaseong on October 9. Siheung Haenggung is where King Jeongjo stayed overnight.
Previously, the cast for each section was recruited by the Seoul Metropolitan Government, but since last year, Geumcheon-gu residents have participated in major roles for the Geumcheon-gu section (from Geumcheon-gu Office Intersection to Siheung 5-dong Community Center).
The roles to be recruited are ▲ Siheung Hyeollyeong (male in his 50s) ▲ King Jeongjo (male in his 30s) ▲ Lady Hyegyeong Hong (female in her 50s) ▲ Cheongyeon Gunju (female in her 20s) ▲ Cheongseon Gunju (female in her 20s), one person each. Those who wish to participate can download the application form from the ‘Notices & Announcements’ section on the Geumcheon-gu Office website, fill it out, and submit it via email or fax by 6 p.m. on September 4.
The final cast will be selected through document screening and interviews. The cast will participate in the procession in the Geumcheon-gu section and perform in the ‘Proclamation of King Jeongjo’s Edict’ and the ‘Disciplinary Action Drama’.
Yoo Seong-hoon, Mayor of Geumcheon-gu, said, “Residents’ direct participation in the King Jeongjo Royal Procession reenactment event, which embodies communication and the spirit of benevolence, will allow them to feel the historical significance of Geumcheon-gu,” adding, “We will make thorough preparations to ensure the festival is rich in sights and entertainment.”
