Court Sentences to 1 Year Imprisonment
A woman in her 30s was sentenced to prison after assaulting her boyfriend when he refused to engage in affectionate behavior at a karaoke room.
The 15th Criminal Division of the Incheon District Court (Presiding Judge Ryu Hojung) announced on the 21st that it sentenced A (39, female), who was indicted on charges of special injury, special assault, obstruction of business, and property damage, to one year in prison.
A was charged with repeatedly striking her boyfriend B (46) on the face and back with her hands at a karaoke room in Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul, around 9 p.m. on May 4 last year, causing injuries requiring three weeks of treatment, including a perforated eardrum.
She was also charged with injuring B near the counter at the karaoke room exit with fragments of a beer bottle.
It was investigated that she committed the crime out of anger after B refused her sexual advances inside the karaoke room.
At the time of the incident, A was also charged with damaging property by breaking beer bottles and glasses, damaging the karaoke room sofa, and obstructing business.
The court stated, "The victim B suffered a severe injury with a severed carotid artery, and if emergency measures had been delayed, it could have posed a fatal risk to his life," and judged that "the defendant was not forgiven by the victim."
However, the court sentenced her to one year in prison, considering that "the defendant admitted to the crime and showed remorse, had no prior criminal record except for a previous fine, and made efforts to restore the damage by depositing 5 million won for the victim B."
Meanwhile, since the victim B expressed his intention not to accept the deposit, the court only partially reflected A’s criminal deposit in the sentencing.
