Emart announced on the 20th that it will introduce the first-ever recycling system for refrigerated bags of livestock gift sets at large marts this Chuseok. Customers who purchase and receive livestock gift sets and then return the refrigerated bags to the Emart Customer Value Center will receive a refund of up to 5,000 KRW.
After receiving one of over 40 types of livestock gift sets such as ‘Peacock Hanwoo Refrigerated Set No. 1’, ‘Peacock Hanwoo Rib Set’, and ‘Peacock Direct Auction Female Hanwoo Sirloin Set’, customers can bring the corresponding refrigerated bag to the Emart Customer Value Center. Emart will refund 5,000 KRW in Shinsegae gift certificates for refrigerated bags and 2,000 KRW for frozen bags.
The collected refrigerated bags are transported to the Emart logistics center and thoroughly cleaned by a specialized company. The cleaning process includes four stages: external cleaning, internal cleaning, sticker removal, and UV sterilization, preparing the bags for reuse.
After cleaning, the refrigerated bags are sent to Emart’s livestock specialty center, the ‘Meat Center’, where they are reused for packaging livestock gift sets. The collection period for refrigerated bags is from September 11 to October 31. Detailed product information and event details can be found at Emart livestock stores nationwide.
Emart plans to contribute to environmental protection and lead ESG management by recycling livestock refrigerated bags that were previously used once and discarded. In fact, last Chuseok, about 70,000 units of the 40 livestock gift sets included in the refrigerated bag recycling system were sold. If 100% are collected, approximately 21.6 tons of refrigerated bag waste can be prevented this Chuseok alone.
Emart is also strengthening eco-friendly elements in packaging materials. Previously, Emart introduced a styrofoam zero system for 15 livestock set items and 7 seafood set items, replacing styrofoam packaging with paper materials. This Chuseok, the system has expanded to a total of 31 items, including 20 livestock gift sets (such as Haeundae Female Rib Set, Darling Down Wagyu Set) and 11 seafood gift sets (such as Gulbi, Okdom, and Hairtail sets), increasing by about 40% compared to Lunar New Year.
Kim Dong-min, head of fresh products at Emart, said, “As value consumption considering the environment expands recently, Emart is expanding the introduction of eco-friendly elements in gift sets. Going forward, Emart will continue to develop products prioritizing not only the quality of gift sets but also the values that customers consider important.”
