Hwasun-gun Accelerates Roundabout Conversion Project

On the 18th, Hwasun-gun, Jeollanam-do announced that it will improve major intersections in Hwasun-eup into roundabouts.

The project aims to alleviate traffic congestion and frequent traffic accidents caused by bottlenecks and vehicle stagnation during rush hours by converting these intersections into roundabouts, thereby ensuring smooth vehicle flow and reducing the risk of traffic accidents.

To improve the intersections, the county completed the detailed design service and consultations with the Korea Road Traffic Authority since last December.

Construction is being carried out in phases starting from April this year, with a total project cost of 2.8 billion KRW, including 750 million KRW from provincial funds and 2.05 billion KRW from county funds.

The locations for the roundabout installations are five sites: the five-way intersection in front of Hwasun County Office, the three-way intersection in front of Namsan North Gate, the four-way intersection in front of Goindol Traditional Market, the three-way intersection in front of Hyundai Nursing Hospital, and the four-way intersection in front of Hwasun Funeral Hall.

Among these, construction at the five-way intersection in front of Hwasun County Office was completed in July this year.

The intersections in front of Namsan North Gate, Hyundai Nursing Hospital, and Hwasun Funeral Hall began construction in August and are scheduled to be completed by December this year. The four-way intersection in front of Goindol Traditional Market is currently undergoing detailed design services, and construction funding will be secured next year to proceed with the project.

A county official stated, “We will do our best to install optimal roundabouts suited to the terrain and current conditions of each intersection to reduce traffic accidents and ensure smooth vehicle flow.”
