- Hoban Construction Implements Systematic Safety Management Across Multiple Areas
- Efforts to Advance Safety Management System Using PropTech Technology
Hoban Construction, which has been continuously striving to improve safety at construction sites and the working environment for workers, conducted a site safety inspection.
According to Hoban Construction on the 18th, the company conducted heat illness prevention training at all sites earlier this month and carried out preventive inspections against heatwaves. Representatives from Hoban Construction’s safety division personally visited the sites during this inspection, thoroughly checking workers’ rest areas, compliance with break times, and site operations amid the heatwave, while also taking time to listen to workers’ difficulties.
Hoban Construction installed rest areas in locations easily accessible to site workers and provided portable air conditioners to enable workers to rest in a more comfortable environment. Additionally, through heat illness prevention training, workers were able to acquire relevant knowledge and coping methods. The company raises workers’ risk awareness and monitors their health by measuring blood pressure and other indicators at least once a week. Hoban Construction also consistently conducts emotional safety activity campaigns such as Ice Cream Day at each site.
Hoban Construction strengthens regular safety inspections, including the installation of safety facilities in fall-risk zones and the wearing of personal protective equipment. Safety monitoring teams are stationed and manage high-risk work areas such as those prone to falling or collapse to ensure thorough safety management. Furthermore, the company frequently inspects and maintains emergency response systems, including emergency contact networks, recovery procedures, and equipment checks. When key management tasks are scheduled at a site, a special risk work meeting is held the day before. High-risk tasks such as night work, confined space work, and the installation and dismantling of falling object prevention nets are carried out only after prior safety measures are approved by supervisors and safety managers.
Hoban Construction is also working to advance its safety management system using PropTech technology. The company applies its self-developed risk assessment system, ‘HAPS (Hoban Accident Prevention System),’ at each site, and sites where nine major high-risk tasks are performed are registered in the ERP system for linked monitoring between the site and headquarters for focused management. Each Hoban Construction site evaluates risk levels using a smartphone application, and safety inspections are conducted in real time.
A Hoban Construction official said, “We hope that this inspection will guarantee a safe and healthy workplace for all workers,” adding, “We will continue to make efforts to adhere to the basic principles of safety.”
Meanwhile, Hoban Construction ranked 10th in the 2023 Construction Capability Evaluation announced by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport last month, returning to the top 10 construction companies for the first time in four years since 2019. Among the top 10 construction companies, Hoban Construction was the only company designated as a ‘2023 Self-Review and Confirmation Company for Hazardous and Risk Prevention Plans,’ and no fatal accidents have occurred in the past two years and eight months.
