Prime Minister Han Duck-soo drew attention on the 17th by boasting about the Seoul Dobong-gu Office heatwave shelter on his SNS.
On that afternoon, through Facebook, Prime Minister Han said, “The heatwave is continuing again,” and emphasized, “To protect the health and happiness of the people from climate change, conventional administration is not enough. A change in mindset is necessary.”
He continued, “Among the places I have personally visited this year, Seoul Dobong-gu Office is a good example,” praising the Dobong-gu Office heatwave shelter.
He introduced that Dobong-gu created a spacious heatwave shelter on the 1st and 2nd floors of the district office where hundreds of residents can rest, and named it the ‘Share-con Project,’ combining the English word ‘Share’ and air conditioner.
He introduced that there are various rooms such as a room for elderly people to play Janggi, a room for watching movies, a room for chatting, a room for exercising, a room where children play with playground equipment, and study rooms for university students and job seekers.
He said that the Dobong-gu Office shelter is bustling with an average of 500 people daily, and quoted Oh Eun-seok, the district mayor, saying, “Since we made it on the 1st and 2nd floors of the district office where civil petitioners come and go, word naturally spread, and the district office became a neighborhood community center.”
Prime Minister Han concluded, “I will do my best to protect the lives and health of the people through innovation and dedication by many who innovate disaster administration like Dobong-gu Office,” and asked, “Please warmly encourage public officials who do well so that they can work enthusiastically.”
In response to Prime Minister Han’s praise, Oh Eun-seok, the mayor of Dobong-gu, also expressed his gratitude and smiled broadly.
