Jung-gu, Seoul (District Mayor Kim Gil-seong) took the initiative to protect alley safety by inspecting street safety and conducting a crime prevention campaign with residents and police, focusing on construction sites and densely populated areas in Euljiro on the night of the 16th.

Starting from 8 PM on the 16th, the district conducted a foot patrol covering about 1 km around the Sewoon District, where redevelopment construction is underway, and the Euljiro 3-ga area, which attracts many citizens. The patrol team included ‘My Neighborhood Guardians’ composed of Euljiro-dong residents, the volunteer crime prevention squad, district office staff, and police officers from the Euljiro 3-ga Police Substation, carrying out safety inspections and crime prevention activities.

First, they inspected the construction site in the Sewoon District undergoing redevelopment. Mayor Kim Gil-seong carefully walked through the alleys to check whether nighttime noise from the construction site, which could cause inconvenience to residents, was occurring, and whether construction materials were stored on sidewalks or side roads causing inconvenience or danger to pedestrians. Additionally, in the Euljiro 3-ga area with high foot traffic, they checked for street safety and environmental issues caused by illegal storage and unauthorized dumping of garbage by nearby shops.

Along with the safety inspection, crime prevention activities were also conducted during this patrol. Recently, crimes targeting unspecified individuals have occurred, and online murder threats have increased, heightening citizens’ anxiety. With cooperation from the police substation, the district carried out a campaign along the Euljiro food alley to inform citizens about prevention and response methods for ‘random crimes.’ They also inspected every corner of the streets to ensure there were no CCTV blind spots and that emergency bells were functioning properly.

On the 8th of this month, the district also conducted a ‘joint special crime prevention activity’ with volunteer crime prevention squad members, district office staff, and police precinct officers, focusing on areas with high foot traffic to alleviate residents’ concerns and ensure safety.

Going forward, ‘My Neighborhood Guardians’ and the volunteer crime prevention squad will strengthen crime prevention activities in cooperation with the local police substation, focusing on major densely populated areas, and continue efforts to protect neighborhood safety. ‘My Neighborhood Guardians’ were appointed in May as ‘watchmen of our neighborhood’ to proactively identify and respond to safety risks in the community, engaging in various activities to create a better living environment.

Kim Gil-seong, Mayor of Jung-gu, expressed gratitude for the efforts of ‘My Neighborhood Guardians’ and the volunteer crime prevention squad who work for neighborhood safety, and stated, “We will continue to strengthen patrols with residents and related organizations to ensure the safe daily lives of residents and visitors to Jung-gu.”
