The owner of a lottery ticket sales store sparked public outrage after trying to deceive a Lotto 3rd prize winner by telling them they had won 4th prize and attempting to swap the winning ticket.

According to JTBC's 'Sageon Banjang' on the 16th, informant A purchased the 1073rd Lotto ticket on June 23. After checking the winning results via the QR code, A found out they had won 3rd prize. The prize amount was 1,436,067 won.

Lotto 3rd prize winners must claim their prize at a bank, but unaware of this, A went to the lottery sales store. A handed the 3rd prize winning ticket to the store owner B, but B said it was 4th prize and gave 50,000 won.

A explained the situation, saying, "(B) looked at me intently, put the ticket into the machine, and said 'It's 50,000 won,' then gave me 50,000 won in cash." He added, "Since I already knew I had won 3rd prize, I was shocked and asked for the ticket back, but he said 'I threw it away, so I don't have it anymore.'"

He continued, "(B) said, 'Do you know the numbers? You can't find this,' and rummaged through the nearby trash can to give me 10 Lotto tickets," adding, "He thought I didn't know the numbers."

After A showed the Lotto ticket he had scanned with the QR code, B finally apologized and returned the ticket. B said, "Sorry, I really thought it was 4th prize worth 50,000 won."

After this incident, it was reported that B even put up a sign boasting that a 3rd prize winner had come from his store, claiming it was a lucky spot. A said, "If I hadn't checked in advance, I would have been deceived."

Winners who matched the Lotto winning numbers must claim their prize within one year from the following Monday (or the next business day if it is a holiday) by bringing the ticket and ID (no ID required for 4th-5th prize) to receive the prize.
