Pet Cat Owner "Can't Understand Within Common Sense"
Housekeeper's Son "I Will Come to Find You" Threatens
While the homeowner was out, a housekeeper brutally abused a pet cat by pulling out its claws, sparking public outrage. The housekeeper claimed that she mistook the homeowner's pet cat for a stray and tried to drive it away.
According to an SBS report on the 16th, homeowner Mr. A recently hired housekeeper Ms. B through a cleaning service app. After returning from an outing, Mr. A found his pet cat severely injured.
Mr. A said, "The cat was sitting there completely covered in blood. Honestly, I was so shocked that I didn’t even have time to take pictures at that moment." The photos Mr. A shared show bloodstains all over the cat’s face and large wounds that appeared to be from forcibly pulled claws. Blood was also smeared on various parts of the house and stairway walls. The cat was reportedly diagnosed at the hospital with suspected concussion and pulmonary hemorrhage.
When Mr. A contacted Ms. B to ask how the cat got injured, she confessed that she mistook the pet cat for a stray and hit it to drive it away. Ms. B said, "I thought a stray cat had entered the house, and I only pushed it with a mop."
However, Mr. A claimed that he had informed Ms. B about the cat beforehand. He said, "I left a handwritten note saying, 'There is a cat in the house,' and 'You don’t need to clean up the cat’s belongings.'"
The housekeeper introduction company later expressed their intention to provide a refund and cover medical expenses. The company stated, "This is the first time such a case has occurred, so there were no regulations in place."
Homeowner Mr. A: "Even if it’s a stray cat, abuse cannot be justified"
Earlier, Mr. A posted the story on social media. On the 10th, he wrote on his Instagram, "Whether it’s a stray or a house cat, I cannot understand the reason for trying to drive it away. Abuse cannot be justified even if it’s a stray cat."
He added, "I was upset, angry, my hands were shaking, and I was in a daze when I first reported it to the police. That evening, I received a call from someone claiming to be the housekeeper’s son, saying, 'Why are you suing my mother? I know your address and will come find you.'"
He also said, "The app company contacted me saying, 'We apologize for the unsatisfactory experience. We will forward this to our education and management department and conduct retraining.' They also said that Ms. B is currently working in another household. What should I do in this situation? Please help," he lamented.
Meanwhile, Ms. B has been booked on charges of animal abuse and is under police investigation. Under the current Animal Protection Act, causing injury to an animal can result in up to two years in prison or a fine of up to 20 million won.
