"Test Anonymously for Drug Crime Victims"

Gangbuk-gu, Seoul (Mayor Lee Soon-hee) announced that starting from the 21st, it will implement 'Anonymous Drug Testing' to prevent the spread of drug crime victims.

'Anonymous Drug Testing' is a policy introduced by the Seoul Metropolitan Government to protect citizens' safety from drug crimes such as the recent drug beverage incident in the Gangnam academy district. The goals are to establish a proactive response system to address the normalized drug problem, block drug exposure damage through anonymous testing, and enable early diagnosis and treatment linkage for drug exposure.

The test subjects are Seoul citizens who unknowingly consumed drugs delivered by others or those who wish to undergo anonymous testing. ▲Those seeking legal action due to drug crimes ▲Individuals with drug addiction or undergoing rehabilitation treatment and other substance use disorder patients ▲Healthcare professionals or others requesting medical certificates related to their job duties are excluded from the testing.

The test items include six types: marijuana, cocaine, methamphetamine, morphine (opioids), amphetamines, and ecstasy, and the testing is completely free of charge.

Anonymous testing is conducted under a pseudonym at the Clinical Pathology Laboratory on the 2nd floor of Gangbuk-gu Public Health Center. The test is performed through a urine test using a drug test kit after a preliminary questionnaire, and the results are kept confidential according to the Regional Health Act and the Personal Information Protection Act.

If the test result is positive, a secondary test including specialist consultation at Eunpyeong Hospital in Seoul is available for final confirmation. Additionally, the Gangbuk-gu Integrated Addiction Management Support Center provides education on prevention methods for other drug exposure damages and related counseling.

Seoul citizens wishing to take the test should contact the Clinical Pathology Laboratory at Gangbuk-gu Public Health Center.

Lee Soon-hee, Mayor of Gangbuk-gu, stated, “Due to the normalization of drug problems, it is now time for universal health screening and management,” and added, “We hope drug victims actively utilize anonymous testing to prevent progression to addiction.”
