Dongjak-gu, the Secret to Significantly Lowering Heating Costs at Public and National Childcare Centers?

Dongjak-gu Drastically Reduces Heating Costs for Public Childcare Centers

Introducing Low Carbon Emission, High-Efficiency Eco-Friendly ‘Green Energy Heat Pumps’

Dongjak-gu, the Secret to Significantly Lowering Heating Costs at Public and National Childcare Centers?

Dongjak-gu (Mayor Park Il-ha) announced on the 17th that it plans to pilot the installation of heat pump systems in public childcare centers to proactively prepare for a heating cost crisis similar to last winter.

Heat pumps are high-efficiency, low-carbon eco-friendly heating systems utilizing renewable energy, known to save about 50% of energy compared to gas boilers.

This project is being promoted as a fundamental energy response measure, one of the comprehensive heating cost countermeasures established by the district earlier this year. The heat pump systems will first be installed in district facilities such as childcare centers and senior citizen centers, then gradually expanded to the private sector.

The heat pumps are scheduled to be installed in November this year, and the district expects that once the system is in place, it will enable proactive preparation against heating cost crises through energy cost savings.

Considering the high initial installation cost, the project will proceed with an ESCO (Energy Service Company) investing privately to install the system, and the district will repay the energy savings amount over a certain period.

Mayor Park Il-ha stated, “Depending on the results of the pilot operation, we plan to expand the target facilities,” and added, “We will strive to establish fundamental measures to prepare for the anticipated energy crisis (sharp rise in heating costs) this winter.”
