President Yoon Offers Condolences to Bereaved Family
"Will Visit Grave After Returning to Korea"

Ahn Cheol-soo, a member of the People Power Party, expressed condolences on the passing of President Yoon Suk-yeol's father, the late Yoon Ki-joong, an emeritus professor at Yonsei University, saying, "Professor Yoon was not only the president's father but also one of the greatest scholars who laid the foundation of statistics in the Republic of Korea."


On the 16th, Ahn posted on Facebook, "While I was on a business trip to the United States commemorating the 78th anniversary of the August 15 Liberation Day, I received another sad news on such a meaningful day," and added, "It is the obituary that Professor Yoon, a great elder in Korean statistics whom I have always respected, passed away at the age of 92."


Ahn described Professor Yoon as "known as the president's eternal mentor, a strict principlist, and a father who was affectionate to his children," and said, "He was especially a person who devoted his life to addressing polarization and wealth disparity."

He continued, "Upon hearing the news of Professor Yoon's passing, I was reminded once again of President Yoon's consideration and sincerity when, during my tenure as the chairman of the Presidential Transition Committee last year, he took time out of his busy schedule as president-elect to attend my father's funeral," and said, "I wish for President Yoon's successful diplomatic achievements at the upcoming Korea-US-Japan summit starting on the 18th, and I will visit Professor Yoon's grave to pay my respects after returning to Korea."


Professor Yoon, who had recently been hospitalized at Seoul National University Hospital in Jongno-gu, Seoul due to old age, passed away on the 15th at the age of 92. His funeral hall has been set up at the Shinchon Severance Hospital funeral home in Seodaemun-gu, Seoul, and the funeral will be held as a family ceremony over three days.
