Newly Designed Volume-Based Waste Bags Visualize Separation and Disposal Methods Using Illustrated Designs
Introduction of Easy-to-Understand Designs Expected to Spread Proper Waste Separation Culture... English and Chinese Labels Also Included
Jung-gu, Seoul (Mayor Kim Gilsung) will start selling newly redesigned volume-based waste bags from September.
The previous volume-based waste bags had waste disposal instructions written in small text, making them difficult to understand at a glance. The newly released bags significantly reduce the amount of text and use illustrated designs to improve this inconvenience.
The new bag designs introduced by the district come in three types: general use, reusable, and food waste. The bag colors maintain the familiar existing colors (white, pink, yellow) for residents, and the illustrations are unified in black to add a clean look.
The general and reusable volume-based waste bags feature illustrations of plastics, bottles, ceramics, food waste, cans, and batteries with diagonal lines drawn over them to concisely indicate disposal methods.
The food waste volume-based bags use illustrations with diagonal lines over items such as eggshells, bones, seeds, tea bags, fish bones, and hard shells to help easily identify items that should not be disposed of in food waste bags.
To assist foreigners who may have difficulty understanding Korea’s waste disposal rules, English and Chinese labels are also provided.
Even after the new bags are released, previously purchased volume-based waste bags can still be used. The selling price remains the same.
Kim Gilsung, Mayor of Jung-gu, said, “By looking at the illustrations on the newly introduced volume-based waste bags, anyone will be able to easily separate and dispose of waste,” adding, “We expect this opportunity to help establish a proper waste separation culture.”
