30s Daughter-in-law Charged with Assaulting Family Elder Fined 300,000 Won
"Victim Suffered Mental Shock... Unforgivable"
A woman in her 30s who assaulted her mother-in-law during a family dispute was sentenced to a fine.
On the 15th, according to the legal community, Judge Jang Min-ju of the Daejeon District Court Criminal Division 11 sentenced A (38), who was indicted on charges of assaulting her mother-in-law (assault on a lineal ascendant), to a fine of 300,000 won.

A was brought to trial on charges of assaulting B (65) on September 18, 2021, at her mother-in-law’s house located in Seo-gu, Daejeon, after raising her voice and having a verbal dispute over internal family issues.
During the argument, A lost her temper and tried to grab B’s hair, saying, “Ma’am, speak properly.” She was also accused of throwing a remote control and a cardboard box at B. It was reported that they had experienced conflicts over family issues even before this incident.
A partially denied the charges. In particular, regarding throwing objects, she claimed that her husband grabbed her wrist and, while trying to break free, the object she was holding flew off unintentionally. The court did not accept A’s claim.
Judge Jang stated, “It appears that the victim suffered considerable psychological shock and has not forgiven the defendant. However, since the incident occurred impulsively amid significant family conflicts and the defendant has no prior criminal record, this sentence is imposed,” explaining the reasoning behind the sentencing.
