The ecological corridor of the Yeongsan Ridge, which had been severed, has been restored with the construction of a road connecting Gochang-gun in Jeonbuk and Jangseong-gun in Jeonnam.
According to Gochang-gun on the 14th, a completion ceremony for the ‘Yeongsan Ridge Soljae Ecological Corridor Restoration Project’ was held that morning at the Soljae Ecological Tunnel in Wolsan-ri, Gochang-eup, Gochang-gun.
The event was attended by Shim Deok-seop, the governor of Gochang-gun, Im Jeong-ho, chairman of the Gochang-gun council, council members, environmental organizations such as the Ecological Environment Conservation Council and Climate Environment Network, related organizations, and local residents.
The Yeongsan Ridge is the only branch ridge (岐脈) in Jeollabuk-do, stretching a total length of 160 km from Honam Jeongmaek (Naejangsan to Baegamsan), passing through Yanggosaljae and Soljae in Gochang, and reaching Yeonggwang and Yudalsan in Mokpo.
The upper part of the tunnel (ecological passage) is 70 meters long and 30 meters wide, designed as an ecological passage with separated movement spaces so that humans and animals can coexist.
The lower part (road section) is 50 meters long and 15 meters wide, providing sufficient space for safe vehicle traffic and pedestrian movement.
Additionally, an observation deck has been installed, allowing visitors to take a break while enjoying a panoramic view of the beautiful scenery of Gochang-eup.
Governor Shim Deok-seop said, “By completing the ecological corridor connections of the forests of Bangjangsan and Munsusan, rivers such as Incheon River, and the coastal wetlands of Gochang, we will stand tall as the best ecological environment city in South Korea in name and reality.”
