Eunpyeong-gu, "Eliminating Blind Spots in Human Rights Protection through Citizen-Led Operation"... Appointment of Resident Human Rights Participation Group
Responsible for discovering and resolving vulnerable areas of human rights protection within Eunpyeong-gu
Eunpyeong-gu (Mayor Kim Mi-kyung) announced that it held an appointment ceremony for the Resident Human Rights Participation Group on the 8th to guarantee and promote the human rights of Eunpyeong residents.
The Resident Human Rights Participation Group, established under Article 5 of the Ordinance on the Guarantee and Promotion of Human Rights in Eunpyeong-gu, is a resident human rights organization created with the purpose of directly discovering and resolving human rights issues in daily life.
This means that citizens take a leading role in overall activities, opening a path for assistance to reach blind spots in human rights protection that could arise from government-centered operations.
At the appointment ceremony, Mayor Kim Mi-kyung of Eunpyeong-gu presented appointment certificates to the Resident Human Rights Participation Group. The mayor expressed expectations for the future activities of the group, which was selected through a competitive public recruitment process, and held a session to contemplate and discuss the current status and future direction of human rights in Eunpyeong-gu.
The Resident Human Rights Participation Group plans to carry out various activities including ▲ operating the Han Georeum Human Rights Counseling Center at least once a month ▲ supporting and monitoring events organized by the Eunpyeong Human Rights Center such as human rights festivals and contests ▲ discovering potential human rights violation cases within Eunpyeong-gu and linking them to the Human Rights Center.
The Eunpyeong Human Rights Center is scheduled to hold the 5th Han Georeum Human Rights Counseling Center on the 19th at Sangrim Village 8 Complex in Jingwan-dong, Eunpyeong-gu. The Resident Human Rights Participation Group will take charge of this event, marking the start of their full-scale activities.
Mayor Kim Mi-kyung of Eunpyeong-gu stated, “The launch of this Resident Human Rights Participation Group will be a valuable opportunity for Eunpyeong-gu to move one step closer to becoming a human rights-friendly city,” and added, “We ask for active participation so that the sincere opinions of residents regarding the guarantee and promotion of human rights for women, persons with disabilities, the elderly, youth, migrants, and children can be reflected.”
