Female persuaded to enter the cage
Male persuasion fails, tranquilizer dart fired
A commotion occurred when two chimpanzees escaped from the zoo at Dalseong Park in Jung-gu, Daegu.
According to the Daegu Police Agency on the 11th, at around 8:50 a.m. that day, two chimpanzees escaped from their enclosure at Dalseong Park.
The park staff first evacuated 10 visitors and controlled the surrounding area before attempting to capture the chimpanzees.
The police and fire authorities lured one female chimpanzee back into the enclosure around 9:30 a.m.
However, the male chimpanzee did not enter the enclosure and roamed around Dalseong Park, and was subdued at around 10:40 a.m. after three tranquilizer darts were fired.
During this process, zookeeper Mr. A (46) sustained a 4?5 cm laceration on his left arm and was transported to a nearby hospital.
A representative of the Dalseong Park zoo told Yonhap News Agency, "The animal care team is investigating the escape incident."
