A man in his 30s who stalked and killed his ex-lover with a weapon despite a court-issued restraining order has been indicted while in custody.
The Criminal Division 2 of Incheon District Prosecutors' Office (Chief Prosecutor Wi Su-hyun) announced on the 11th that Mr. A was arrested and prosecuted on charges including murder and violation of the Act on the Punishment of Stalking Crimes.
Mr. A is accused of stabbing and killing his ex-lover, a woman in her 30s named Ms. B, in the hallway of an apartment in Namdong-gu, Incheon, at 5:54 a.m. on the 17th of last month while she was on her way to work. During the incident, Ms. B’s mother, who tried to stop the attack, also suffered injuries to both hands from the weapon wielded by Mr. A.
Investigations revealed that Mr. A first met Ms. B in 2021 through a sports club, and they began dating while working at the same company. His obsession grew severe, and after Ms. B broke up with him, he committed the crime. He told the police, "I was angry because Ms. B ignored me after saying she wanted to break up," but claimed, "It was not retaliation for the stalking report."
Mr. A was investigated by the police in February for dating violence against Ms. B, and again in June for violating the Stalking Punishment Act. Subsequently, the court issued provisional measures orders 2 and 3, instructing him not to approach within 100 meters of Ms. B or contact her via telecommunications.
