Optical component specialist IM Co., Ltd. (CEO Kim Tae-dong) is gaining attention as its optical components are being installed in domestic smartphone brands, and the rapid growth of foldable phones is expected to drive its performance.
IM Co., Ltd. announced that its OIS (Optical Image Stabilization) actuator will be installed in the latest flagship in-folding foldable phone from a major smartphone brand, first revealed in July.
This smartphone is the fifth in the foldable smartphone series and recently made headlines by surpassing 1 million units in domestic pre-sales. This is the highest pre-sale record since the first foldable phone was launched in 2019.
Additionally, IM Co., Ltd.'s OIS actuator is expected to be applied to a flagship smartphone scheduled for release in the first half of next year. The foldable smartphone is anticipated to feature a 10-megapixel camera, while the flagship smartphone will simultaneously incorporate 200-megapixel and 10-megapixel cameras.
The OIS actuator is regarded as a premium optical component with a high unit price and margin. Furthermore, as global competition to differentiate smartphone specifications intensifies, IM Co., Ltd. is recognized for its advanced technology.
According to global tech research firm Counterpoint Research, worldwide shipments of foldable smartphones in the first quarter of this year increased by a remarkable 64% year-on-year to 2.5 million units, showing an upward trend.
A representative from IM Co., Ltd. stated, "Our OIS actuator is set to be consecutively adopted in the latest flagship smartphone models, and the domestic pre-order volume for these products is recording an all-time high, demonstrating strong sales. As the application to other companies' next-generation flagship smartphone models is also being positively considered, steady sales growth is expected."
IM Co., Ltd.'s main products include camera OIS actuators, smart films, optical modules, and automation JIGs and equipment.
