J.O Advances High-Purity Carbon Nanotube Technology for All-Solid-State Batteries Development

Global carbon nanotube (CNT) leading company J-O has embarked on the development of high-purity CNT conductive materials to be used in all-solid-state batteries.

J-O announced on the 10th that it has been selected as a joint research and development institution for the project titled ‘Development of Process Material Technology for Sulfide-based All-solid-state Batteries.’ This national project is part of the ‘Materials and Components Technology Development’ program led by the Korea Evaluation Institute of Industrial Technology (KEIT) under the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, with a project budget of approximately 3.7 billion KRW.

The project aims to develop optimized CNT conductive materials to improve the low electronic and lithium-ion conductivity of all-solid-state electrolytes, and it is expected to significantly enhance the lifespan stability of all-solid-state batteries.

J-O will develop the ‘CNT conductive material production technology with over 99% high purity CNT’ as part of this project. The company is responsible for ▲ designing catalyst compositions and deriving process factors for high-purity CNT conductive materials ▲ pretreatment technologies to improve catalyst activity ▲ optimization of the high-purity CNT conductive material synthesis process ▲ post-treatment process technologies for producing highly crystalline, high-purity CNT conductive materials.

The company expects that by developing CNT conductive materials for all-solid-state batteries, it will guarantee greatly improved electronic and lithium-ion conductivity of electrodes, while simultaneously securing high energy density and high stability of all-solid-state batteries.

A J-O representative stated, “Through this project, we anticipate acquiring global technological competitiveness in next-generation battery technologies,” adding, “We will continue to pursue strategic expansion policies to lead the rapidly changing CNT market for secondary batteries, based on the continuous acquisition of core technologies ranging from CNT materials to application technologies, and seek business opportunities in a wider range of fields.”
