Seoul Metropolitan Science Museum operates various science experience programs including ‘Escape Bus’, 3D scanner demonstration, AI Smart City & Smart Farm
Geumcheon-gu (Mayor Yoo Seong-hoon) announced that it will hold a science festival under the slogan “Reuniting the World through Science, Digital Geumcheon” from August 31 to September 2.
Now in its 5th year, this event is designed to provide residents with hands-on experience of 4th Industrial Revolution technologies, aiming to expand the infrastructure of the science city Geumcheon and nurture talent in advanced science and technology fields.
The district will hold various science experience events at the district office plaza, Geumnarae Art Hall, Geumnarae Library, and other locations, and will operate a dedicated website for the Geumcheon Science Festival until September 30 for festival information, reservations, and event participation.
Pre-registration for eight major programs, including ▲ Choi Hyun-woo Magic Show ▲ Special lecture by neuroscientist Dr. Jang Dong-seon ▲ Science Golden Bell, will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis through the Geumcheon Science Festival website from August 10 to 24.
On August 31 at 7:30 PM, the festival will open with a congratulatory performance by the ‘National Traditional Arts High School’ and a Michael Jackson LED art performance by ‘Saengdonggam Crew’ on the main stage at Geumcheon-gu Office plaza.
The science festival venues held from September 1 to 2 will be divided into ‘Culture Zone (performances and lectures)’, ‘Future Zone (exhibitions and experiences)’, ‘Healing Zone (digital and communication)’, and ‘Smart Zone (education and competitions)’, offering a variety of science experience programs for all ages.
In the Culture Zone, visitors can enjoy main stage performances such as ▲ giant robot ‘Titan’ show ▲ youth busking performances ▲ paper airplane flying contest, as well as family-friendly attractions at Geumnarae Art Hall including ▲ magician Choi Hyun-woo’s magic show ▲ lecture by neuroscientist Dr. Jang Dong-seon.
The Future Zone, where various exhibitions and experiences are available, features ▲ 3D scanner demonstrations ▲ AI soccer ▲ Seoul Metropolitan Science Museum’s ‘Escape Bus’, allowing participants to physically experience future science. Notably, a digital kiosk registration system will be introduced for the first time, where participants register their information via smartphone and receive name tags from kiosks, enhancing convenience and enabling an experience of ‘digital everyday life.’
The Healing Zone, themed on digital and communication, offers essential digital experiences for daily life such as smartphone and LEGO education, digital CPR equipment exhibition and demonstration, and through the ‘AI Smart City & Smart Farm exhibition and experience,’ visitors can explore IoT-based smart city technologies.
In the Smart Zone, located in the 12th-floor auditorium, the Geumcheon Science Cube Coding Drone Camp and Coding Drone Competition will be held. The competition is divided into two categories: elementary school and middle/high school, with awards including the Geumcheon-gu Mayor’s Award and the Southern Education Support Office Superintendent’s Award for the top 10 performers.
Additionally, exciting events such as the traveling quiz show ‘You Quiz on the Geumcheon’ and an Avengers cosplay tour featuring Avengers characters appearing throughout the venue for photo opportunities with visitors will be held.
Yoo Seong-hoon, Mayor of Geumcheon-gu, said, “As the information society rapidly changes, the digital gap between generations is widening. I hope this science festival provides residents with an opportunity to experience digital everyday life and strengthen their scientific capabilities.”
