Geochang-gun Holds Situation Assessment Meeting in Preparation for Typhoon 'Khanun' Approaching North

Gu In-mo, the mayor of Geochang County, Gyeongnam, held a "Situation Assessment Meeting" on the 9th to proactively respond to the northward approach of Typhoon "Khanun" (Typhoon No. 6). He analyzed the typhoon's path and its potential impact on Geochang County, and through a video conference with 13 disaster cooperation departments and the eup/myeon administrative welfare centers, he instructed on typhoon preparedness measures and response plans.


Typhoon "Khanun" is expected to bring strong winds and a maximum rainfall of about 400mm in some areas, with an anticipated intensity of "strong." Geochang County is also expected to enter the typhoon's influence zone starting from midnight on the 10th. In particular, the predicted path of this typhoon is expected to pass through Geochang County.


Accordingly, Geochang County plans to conduct pre-inspections of areas at risk of human casualties and disaster-vulnerable zones, and to establish a cooperative system with related organizations to minimize damage and facilitate pre-evacuation, dedicating all efforts to protecting the residents from the typhoon.

Additionally, the county held a related agencies' countermeasure meeting with the Geochang Police Station and Geochang Fire Station in response to the typhoon's northward movement.


The Geochang Police Station stated that since the typhoon is expected to make landfall during nighttime hours, they will prioritize controlling roads and low-water bridges that have been closed due to heavy rain before the typhoon's arrival. The Geochang Fire Station also committed to cooperating with the county to thoroughly prepare for life rescue and emergency measures caused by the typhoon.


Officials from Geochang County and related agencies agreed to operate a contact network (group chat room) among field workers to promptly respond to disaster situations and share relevant information in preparation for this typhoon and other disasters.


Mayor Gu said through the Smart Village broadcast, "To prepare for the typhoon, I ask all residents to pay close attention to real-time typhoon information provided through administrative announcements and news. Since strong winds and heavy rain are expected, please refrain from going outside. Also, in case of damage, please immediately request support from administrative agencies such as the county office and eup/myeon administrative welfare centers." He added, "The county will do its best to protect the lives and property of its residents."
