Nexon Surpasses 2 Trillion Won in First Half Sales... Record-Breaking Performance

Nexon Surpasses 2 Trillion Won in First Half Sales... Record-Breaking Performance

Nexon surpassed 2 trillion KRW in sales and 800 billion KRW in operating profit in the first half of this year. This is the highest sales ever recorded for the first half of a year.

Nexon announced on the 9th that its sales in the second quarter of this year reached 902.8 billion KRW (94.4 billion JPY, based on a quarterly exchange rate of 956.0 KRW per 100 JPY), and operating profit was 264 billion KRW (27.6 billion JPY). These figures represent increases of 12% and 22%, respectively, compared to the same period last year.

For the first half of the year, sales amounted to 2.0891 trillion KRW (218.5 billion JPY), and operating profit was 802 billion KRW (83.8 billion JPY), marking increases of 12% and 22% year-over-year, respectively.

In the second quarter, Nexon achieved balanced results across various game genres. Contributions to sales came from soccer games spanning PC and mobile platforms such as ‘FIFA Online 4’ and ‘FIFA Mobile,’ the subculture genre hit ‘Blue Archive,’ which is popular in both Japan and Korea, and MMORPGs (Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Games) like ‘Prasia Jeongi’ and ‘HIT2.’

Looking at individual games, ‘FIFA Online 4,’ which has been setting quarterly sales records for six consecutive quarters, led PC sales in the second quarter. ‘FIFA Mobile,’ which maintained an upward trend boosted by the World Cup effect at the end of last year, recorded sales exceeding expectations, contributing to the overall performance. Sales of ‘Prasia Jeongi,’ released as a cross-platform title for PC and mobile, reflected its full impact and contributed to second-quarter sales growth.

In China, ‘Dungeon & Fighter’ also met projections through live operations focused on user satisfaction. Although sales slightly decreased compared to the same period last year due to record-breaking results in the second quarter of last year, user metrics such as Monthly Active Users (MAU) have steadily improved, indicating a stable recovery trend.

Accelerating Global Expansion

'Dave the Diver,' officially launched globally at the end of June, ranked first in global sales among paid games on Steam within one day of release, and as of July 8, surpassed 1 million copies sold (including early access sales). It also recorded a peak concurrent user count of approximately 98,500.

'HIT2,' developed by Nexon Games, was released in Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macau in May and has gained popularity. It reached number one in the Taiwan App Store’s popular games ranking just four hours after pre-download began, and maintained the top sales position for over ten days after launch, achieving excellent results.

‘Blue Archive,’ which celebrated its 2.5-year anniversary of service in Japan, recently reclaimed the number one spot in real-time sales rankings on the Japanese Apple App Store following its January peak, proving its dominance in Japan, the birthplace of the subculture genre.

‘Blue Archive,’ which recorded 4.25 million pre-registrations, had a strong start when it launched in China on August 3. ‘MapleStory M,’ under the local service name ‘Moheomdo: Danpungjeonseol (MapleStory: The Legends of Maple),’ is scheduled for official release in China on the 17th.

New Titles Awaiting Release Including Root Shooter and Large-Scale PvP Games

Nexon is preparing various new titles across genres that will captivate global users, including large-scale PvP (player versus player), team-based shooting, and CO-OP (cooperative play) shooting games.

First, ‘First Descendant’ is a new root shooter genre title combining shooting and RPG elements, showcasing the core strengths of Nexon Games, known for developing shooting and RPG games such as ‘Sudden Attack,’ ‘HIT2,’ and ‘V4.’ A cross-play open beta test, allowing simultaneous play on PC and console platforms, is scheduled to begin on September 19.

Nexon’s Swedish subsidiary Embark Studios is also developing two shooting games, ‘The Finals’ and ‘Arc Raiders,’ which will introduce new gameplay experiences.

Additionally, ‘Warhaven,’ a large-scale PvP game set in a medieval fantasy world featuring cold weapons like swords and spears, where two factions of 16 players each endlessly clash according to the doctrines of their believed heroes, is preparing for launch. Early access is planned for this fall.

Owen Mahoney, CEO of Nexon (Japan), said, “In the second quarter of this year, we achieved balanced growth through the harmonious performance of new IPs and live services. We will continue to strive to provide differentiated games to our users through various cross-platform new titles.”
