Hyundai Mobis announced on the 9th that it has successfully secured an order for the battery system (BSA), a core electrification component, from the German automobile company Volkswagen. This system is scheduled to be installed on Volkswagen's next-generation electric vehicle dedicated platform. After obtaining board approval within the year, Hyundai Mobis plans to establish a new production base near the finished vehicle plant located in Spain to supply the battery system to Volkswagen.
The battery system is a finished product that combines electronic components and the BMS (Battery Management System) with the battery pack to ensure the battery operates well in electric vehicles. High-capacity and high-efficiency battery systems determine the quality and performance of electrified vehicles.
Since starting operations at the eco-friendly vehicle parts dedicated plant in Chungju in 2013, Hyundai Mobis has accumulated over 10 years of mass production know-how and quality competitiveness in core electrification components. Currently, it possesses a battery system portfolio applicable to all eco-friendly vehicles, including hybrids and electric vehicles.
The company is also working on establishing new production bases. It currently operates battery system production lines in Korea, China, and the Czech Republic. New electrification bases are being established in the United States and Indonesia.
Based on this large-scale overseas order, Hyundai Mobis plans to pursue additional electrification component orders in the global market.
