On the 9th, the Gwanak Police Station in Seoul announced that they apprehended a man in his 20s, identified as Mr. A, at the scene on Dorimcheon-ro in Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul, around 10:40 a.m. the previous day on charges of violating the Road Traffic Act (drunk driving).

The police received a 112 report that Mr. A had stopped his car and fallen asleep on the road from Sillim Intersection in Gwanak-gu toward Dangok Intersection, then woke up and started driving again. Traffic officers deployed undercover patrol cars and traffic patrol cars to search the surrounding area and possible escape routes.

Following the anticipated escape routes, the police extended their search into the jurisdiction of the Yeongdeungpo Police Station and found a vehicle stopped near Dorimcheon-ro that did not move despite a green light. It was confirmed that Mr. A was asleep in the vehicle.

To prepare for any sudden situations such as Mr. A attempting to flee, the police positioned patrol cars closely in front of and behind the vehicle and knocked on the driver's door for about 10 minutes, demanding he get out. After he exited, a breathalyzer test showed Mr. A’s blood alcohol concentration was 0.255%, far exceeding the license cancellation level (0.08% or higher).

It was found that Mr. A had two prior license cancellations due to drunk driving. A police official stated, "We plan to investigate the exact circumstances of the incident through questioning Mr. A."
