Jung-gu to Establish ‘Media Wall’ in Bukchang-dong by Year-End
Installed along Sejong-daero 78~84, with facility height of 2m and length of 20~30m
To Become a Landmark of Jung-gu by Screening High-Quality Video Content
Providing Attractions and Photo Zones to Increase Visitors and Revitalize Local Economy
Jung-gu, Seoul (Mayor Kim Gil-seong) has announced detailed plans regarding the Media Wall to be created in the Bukchang-dong food street. A ‘transparent display’ approximately 2 meters high and 20 to 30 meters long will be installed along the street front of Sejong-daero 78~84. The contractor selection has recently been completed, and efforts will be accelerated to complete the installation by November.
The Media Wall is a structure that fills a wall surface with a screen capable of displaying artistic videos. Recently, department stores and large buildings have been using media walls to exhibit various artworks, enhancing the value of the space.
In particular, the ‘transparent display’ applied by the district this time is impressive in that it does not obstruct the view of pedestrians and drivers while providing visual attractions to visitors along the main road.
During the day, it will serve as a transparent window, and at night, it will become a window that communicates with citizens by providing light and images. In bright daylight, visitors can enjoy the greenery along the street, and at night, the street will be illuminated with videos or artworks.
Theme videos will also be screened during the year-end holidays and Christmas, expected to add romance to the city.
The district plans to install the Media Wall by the end of this year to provide visual attractions to nearby office workers and foreign tourists visiting Bukchang-dong, thereby improving the cityscape.
Meanwhile, Bukchang-dong food alley is a representative food street in Seoul, located near Sungnyemun, Deoksugung Palace, and City Hall Plaza, and is considered a must-visit course for foreign tourists. Accordingly, the district applied for the Seoul cityscape improvement project last year to enhance the urban landscape with design in Bukchang-dong and secure a budget of about 1 billion KRW to make it a landmark of Jung-gu.
Kim Gil-seong, Mayor of Jung-gu, stated, “Jung-gu, the center of Seoul, is like the face of South Korea,” and added, “We will continue to do our best to improve the urban landscape so that it becomes an attractive city where people want to stay longer, visit again, and even live once.”
