Sacheon City Prepares for Typhoon No. 6 'Khanun' ... Disaster Safety Countermeasures Headquarters Activated

Sacheon City in Gyeongnam announced on the 9th that it has begun proactive measures, including holding an emergency countermeasure meeting, to prepare for the northward-moving Typhoon No. 6 "Khanun."


On the 8th, the city held an emergency response status check meeting at the Disaster Safety Situation Room on the 5th floor of City Hall, attended by the head of the headquarters, heads of 19 cooperating departments, and 14 heads of towns and townships, to prepare for the northward approach of Typhoon No. 6 "Khanun" in 2023.


This response status check meeting, presided over by Mayor Park Dongsik, was organized to share the typhoon's path, impact range, and other details to minimize damage. "Khanun" is a medium-sized typhoon classified as "strong" in intensity and is expected to directly affect the Sacheon area from the night of the 9th through the morning of the 10th.

Sacheon City Prepares for Typhoon No. 6 'Khanun' ... Disaster Safety Countermeasures Headquarters Activated Sacheon City is holding an emergency response situation inspection meeting in preparation for the northward approach of Typhoon Khanun.

At the meeting, the meteorological situation analysis of Typhoon "Khanun," response status reports from 33 departments preparing for the typhoon, timing of emergency duty orders, pre-evacuation of residents, and situation assessments of pre-control facilities were reviewed to check the overall response status to the approaching typhoon.


Additionally, while closely monitoring the movement path of Typhoon No. 6 "Khanun," the city plans to maintain a thorough disaster response posture by monitoring the Namgang Dam discharge and activating the proactive Disaster Safety Countermeasure Headquarters according to the stages of weather warnings.


In particular, the city will continue to hold situation assessment meetings and maintain an active support posture for the typhoon by establishing hotlines with related agencies such as the Sacheon Police Station, Sacheon Fire Station, and military units.


Prior to this, the city completed a full inspection of 38 facilities subject to pre-control during weather warnings, including Sewolgyo Bridge, rivers, and coastal areas, as well as on-site inspections of 32 locations at risk of human casualties and 31 disaster-vulnerable facilities.


Furthermore, safety inspections were completed for overall city facilities, including steep slopes and collapse-risk areas, old houses, riverside walking trails, landslide-prone areas, outdoor advertising, livestock facilities, water play safety facilities, and reservoirs.


Moreover, safety measures were implemented for facilities in high-risk areas against strong winds, such as marine facilities, stormwater drainage, large construction sites, outdoor advertisements, and mountain solar power installations.


Currently, the city is intensively promoting citizen action guidelines for typhoon preparedness through its SNS channels, media boards, disaster text message electronic signboards, and voice notification systems.


Mayor Park Dongsik urged, "While strengthening pre-control of areas at risk of human casualties such as rapid river currents, landslide-prone areas, and steep slopes, please closely monitor the weather situation and thoroughly prepare to ensure prompt and proactive evacuation of residents in dangerous areas."
