Relay Campaign to Support Pumped Storage Power Plant Hosting

On the morning of the 8th at 8 a.m., Yeongyang-gun, Gyeongbuk held a relay campaign to attract a pumped-storage power plant at the Deunggiso Intersection in Yeongyang-eup, with the Pumped-Storage Power Plant Attraction Committee and employees of the Nonghyup Yeongyang-gun branch participating together.

The Pumped Storage Power Plant Attraction Committee and employees of the Nonghyup Yeongyang County Branch held a relay campaign to attract a pumped storage power plant to Yeongyang County.

The campaign was conducted with about 30 members of the Pumped-Storage Power Plant Attraction Committee and employees of the Nonghyup Yeongyang-gun branch to promote the attraction of the pumped-storage power plant.

This campaign was promoted as part of the agenda adopted at the ‘6th Joint Standing Co-Chairpersons Meeting of the Pan-Citizen Attraction Committee’ held on June 5, aiming to continue the enthusiasm for attracting the pumped-storage power plant following the pan-citizen resolution rally. It has been regularly held twice a week since the joint relay campaign by the People Power Party Yeongyang County Party Members’ Council and the Yeongyang County Women’s Association on the 7th, and this day marked the 14th day.

Since May 3, Yeongyang-gun has been actively conducting signature campaigns starting with the first town and township resolution rally held with the private promotion committee, promoting pan-citizen participation challenges and relay campaign activities to attract the pumped-storage power plant, and carrying out both online and offline publicity.

As the voluntary intention of the residents is a decisive criterion for the selection of the pumped-storage power plant, Yeongyang-gun plans to focus on securing resident acceptance until the final site is confirmed by continuously promoting the importance and necessity of the project centered on the pan-citizen attraction committee.

Employees of the Nonghyup Yeongyang-gun branch, who help revitalize the local economy, gathered with one heart and mind at the Deunggiso Intersection from early morning to cheer on the residents on their way to work.

If the pumped-storage power plant is attracted, about 50 billion KRW in local development support funds can be secured, and an annual local tax revenue of 1.4 billion KRW can be obtained. In the long term, it can contribute to local economic revitalization through complex tourism resource development. Residents of Yeongyang-gun, which is classified as a region at risk of population extinction, strongly wish for the pumped-storage power plant.

At the event, County Governor Oh Do-chang said, “With the sense of crisis that the place where we have lived all our lives may disappear due to local extinction, all residents are united in one heart and hope to attract the pumped-storage power plant. We will definitely protect the hometown of our brothers and sisters and the nest where children who have gone on a long journey back to their hometown can return.”

Seo Jong-sik, head of the NH Nonghyup Yeongyang-gun branch, said, “As fellow residents of Yeongyang-gun, we will also dedicate ourselves with one heart and mind to help Yeongyang-gun succeed in attracting the pumped-storage power plant.”
