Sejong Telecom-Lenovo-Qualcomm, First Domestic Network Interworking Test Success for 5G Specialized Network Supported Laptop

Sejong Telecom, a period telecommunications company and ICT platform enterprise (CEO Lee Byung-guk), announced on the 8th that it has succeeded in network interworking of laptops and tablets supporting 5G private networks for the first time in Korea, together with Lenovo and Qualcomm.

The test was conducted at Sejong Telecom's 5G private network testbed and the manufacturing site of TLB Co., Ltd. in Banwol and Siwha industrial complexes.

The laptop used was the X13s model, a new product in Lenovo's business laptop line, the ThinkPad series, equipped with Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8cx 3rd generation compute platform. In particular, the powerful connectivity based on Qualcomm Snapdragon X55 5G modem-RF system maximizes the user experience of always-connected laptops, supporting not only the commercial 5G·LTE frequencies of domestic mobile carriers below 6 GHz but also the 5G private network frequency in the 4.7 GHz band, enriching the usability and scalability of B2B laptops.

Sejong Telecom plans to further accelerate its business using 5G private networks through this achievement. The success of this test, the first of its kind in Korea, is expected to enhance the accessibility of 5G private networks for companies currently operating or considering 5G private network businesses. This is because it can be used on-site with dedicated devices that recognize 5G private network frequencies without separate dongles or modems.

In particular, if various devices supporting 5G private networks, such as smartphones, are released in addition to laptops, it can also contribute to expanding the experience of private network services such as smart offices and mobile field work.

Lee Kwang-mo, Director of Strategic Planning at Sejong Telecom, said, “There are many organizations demanding to build 5G private networks, but unfortunately, there is a lack of devices that can properly utilize them.” He added, “As a 5G private network operator, Sejong Telecom will contribute to expanding the commercial device market supporting 5G private networks through its accumulated proprietary technology and successful cases, and furthermore, become a catalyst for opening the full-fledged era of 5G private network utilization.”

Meanwhile, Sejong Telecom plans to provide the laptops that succeeded in this test to Hyundai Heavy Industries and Hyundai Mipo Dockyard by the end of this year, and has selected them as part of the PC list available for the new Gwacheon headquarters based on private networks scheduled to open next spring.
