Busan City Consortium (Busan City·Busan Port Authority) Designated
Presentation of Urban Future Vision and Establishment of 2030 World Expo Hosting Strategy
On the 4th, Busan City announced that the Busan City consortium, consisting of Busan City and Busan Port Authority (BPA), was designated as the project implementer for the second phase of the Busan Port North Port redevelopment project.
This designation came as a result of Busan City officially requesting the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries to first appoint 'Busan City' and 'Busan Port Authority (BPA)'?the institutions within the 'Busan City consortium' currently capable of implementing the project?following the preliminary feasibility study approval (October 2022) to ensure the successful hosting of the 2030 World Expo.
With this, a foundation has been laid to swiftly handle various administrative procedures necessary to commence the project in the first half of 2024 through related service tasks such as establishing the second phase North Port project plan and detailed design.
The consortium institutions not designated as project implementers this time (Korea Land and Housing Corporation, Busan Urban Corporation, Korea Railroad Corporation) are expected to participate as project implementers after completing internal decision-making within this year.
The three institutions will actively participate in the project plan and detailed design to expedite the hosting of the 2030 World Expo and the prompt start of the second phase North Port project, and will complete internal decision-making within this year to join as project implementers.
Last December, the city initiated the 'Busan Port North Port Phase 2 Port Redevelopment Project Strategy Establishment Service.'
The city is currently conducting related services to realize the second phase North Port project together with citizens, including presenting a future urban vision containing major municipal issues and reviewing integrated plans linked to the 2030 World Expo, and plans to reflect the results of these services in future project planning and detailed design.
Mayor Park Hyung-jun stated, “With the designation of the 'Busan City consortium' (Busan City, Busan Port Authority) as the project implementer for the second phase North Port project, the development of the 2030 World Expo site will gain further momentum,” adding, “I ask for the citizens’ active cooperation and continuous support so that the second phase North Port redevelopment project can produce concrete results without setbacks.” He also conveyed, “We will actively strive to promote the third phase North Port redevelopment project targeting Uam and Gamman-dong at an early stage.”
