Declaration of Direct Confrontation with Google Bard
Microsoft (MS)'s AI chatbot, Bing Chatbot, is expected to become available on Google Chrome and other browsers. This move aims to directly compete with Google's AI chatbot, Bard, by expanding its territory into Google Chrome, which dominates the global web browser market.
On the 7th (local time), MS announced at the six-month anniversary event of the Bing Chatbot launch that "Bing Chatbot will soon be available on third-party browsers such as Google's Chrome and Apple's Safari, including web and mobile devices."
MS stated, "This will allow more people to experience the amazing value of text, image, and video generation." However, the exact launch date was not specified.
Since last month, MS has been testing Bing Chatbot on other browsers with some users to expand its availability. MS said, "More people will be able to see the amazing value of Bing Chatbot's summarized answers and image generation," adding, "We will optimize user needs across various browsers."
As Bing Chatbot expands across platforms, a direct confrontation with Google's AI chatbot Bard has become inevitable. Currently, Bing Chatbot is only available on MS's Edge browser, while Bard has supported use on other browsers ahead of Bing Chatbot.
MS stated, "Bing Chatbot works on other web browsers preferred by users, but the best experience will be found on the MS Edge browser," noting that some features may be limited on other browsers.
During tests with some users, while Edge allowed prompts of up to 3,000 characters, other browsers limited input to 2,000 characters. Additionally, conversations with the chatbot could continue up to 30 times on Edge, but on other browsers, the chat reset after 5 exchanges. MS added, "Through Edge, users will be able to enjoy longer conversations, chat history, and more built-in browser features."
