Daejeon City and Geumgang River Basin Environmental Office Jointly Inspect Flood-Prone Areas

Daejeon City announced on the 7th that it will conduct a joint inspection with the Geumgang River Basin Environmental Office on the 7th and 8th of flood-vulnerable areas along the three major national rivers: Gapcheon, Yudeungcheon, and Daejeoncheon.

The two organizations plan to focus on inspecting the safety of embankment scour and leakage along Gapcheon and others, the safety of emergency repairs in damaged sections, and risk factors in flood-vulnerable areas to prepare for rainfall and typhoon damage.

Additionally, any hazards discovered during the inspection process will be immediately repaired and reinforced, and fundamental improvement measures will be established to ensure continuous management.

Previously, the Ministry of Environment has been investigating and managing flood-vulnerable areas nationwide since last year. However, the recent record-breaking heavy rainfall situation increases the need for inspections around rivers, including national rivers delegated to local governments.

A Daejeon City official stated, “We will thoroughly check the maintenance status of rivers in preparation for heavy rainfall and typhoons to ensure that citizens do not suffer damage from flood and water disasters.”
