Now, you can easily board domestic flights with just the PASS app on your smartphone, without needing a physical ID card or boarding pass.
The three major telecom companies and Korea Airports Corporation announced that starting on the 7th, the ‘PASS Smart Boarding Pass’ service will be implemented at 14 domestic airports nationwide (Gimpo, Gimhae, Jeju, Daegu, Ulsan, Cheongju, Yangyang, Muan, Gwangju, Yeosu, Sacheon, Pohang Gyeongju, Gunsan, Wonju), allowing users to verify their ID and boarding pass simultaneously through the PASS app on their smartphones.
The ‘PASS Smart Boarding Pass’ is available for domestic flights operated by four airlines: Jeju Air, T’way Air, Hi Air, and Eastar Jet, with Air Seoul scheduled to be added in August. The service is planned to be expanded to all domestic airlines as soon as possible.
Until now, passengers had to present physical boarding passes and ID cards separately from the airport departure area ID check to boarding the domestic flight. Now, the boarding process is more convenient as it can be completed at once through the PASS app. The ‘PASS Smart Boarding Pass’ combines the PASS mobile ID (Resident Registration Card Mobile Verification Service and Mobile Driver’s License Verification Service) with the domestic boarding pass to generate a QR code within the PASS app. Passengers simply present and verify this QR code during the boarding process.
Customers who have pre-registered their mobile ID in the PASS app must complete check-in to use the service. When the passenger’s boarding pass information matches the PASS customer information, the QR code and ticket details are automatically displayed in the PASS app. Based on the PASS mobile ID, which applies a real-time one-person-one-device authentication policy, the service enhances security by verifying ID information and check-in details. Additionally, screen capture blocking and QR pattern resetting make forgery and tampering difficult, significantly strengthening security.
The ‘PASS Smart Boarding Pass’ service functions identically to a traditional boarding pass throughout all procedures, from check-in and identity verification to duty-free purchases and aircraft boarding. Furthermore, the PASS app’s Smart Boarding Pass page provides real-time flight departure and arrival status, airport facility information, and displays pop-up messages for special situations such as cancellations or ticket voids.
Customers wishing to use the service can easily do so by accessing the ‘Mobile ID’ tab on the main screen of each telecom company’s PASS app, registering their Resident Registration Card or Driver’s License, and agreeing to the ‘Smart Ticket Service’ terms and conditions.
To celebrate the launch, the three telecom companies will operate promotional booths at the domestic departures area on the 3rd floor of Gimpo Airport and offer exclusive lane benefits to PASS Smart Boarding Pass users until mid-September. Additionally, the PASS app will provide generous prizes to customers who subscribe to and use the PASS Smart Boarding Pass service. Detailed event information and participation methods can be found through each company’s PASS app.
The three telecom companies stated, “This service was developed together with Korea Airports Corporation with the idea of ‘creating a service that allows users to enjoy domestic air travel more conveniently.’ We will actively utilize mobile IDs to evolve into an ‘essential app for everyday life’ that eliminates the need for wallets.”
