Jeollabuk-do Buan-gun, where the 2023 World Scout Jamboree is being held, also experienced a tropical night with a minimum temperature of 25.4°C.
With the Tibetan High and North Pacific High pressure systems located on either side of Korea, and Typhoon Khanun (No. 6) bringing warm air from the south, the heatwave and tropical nights continue unabated. Based on 62 locations nationwide, there have been 8.3 days of heatwave and 4.0 days of tropical nights so far this year through the 4th. The average annual number of heatwave days is 11.0, and tropical night days is 6.6.
Morning temperatures nationwide ranged from 24 to 27°C. At 8 a.m., major city temperatures were 29.1°C in Seoul and Gwangju, 28.1°C in Incheon and Daejeon, 29.2°C in Daegu, 30.8°C in Ulsan, and 31.2°C in Busan. The daytime high is expected to be between 31 and 37°C, similar to the previous day (32.7 to 37.3°C). In Haseo-myeon, Buan-gun, Jeollabuk-do, where the Jamboree is taking place, the daytime temperature is expected to rise to 35°C. With heatwave warnings issued for most regions nationwide, the apparent temperature is expected to exceed 35°C, making it extremely hot.
Although heavy showers are expected in some areas from the 6th to the 8th, the heat will not subside. From morning to afternoon, showers are expected in Jeju Island; from afternoon to night, in Seoul, Incheon, Gyeonggi, Gangwon Yeongseo, inland Chungcheong, Jeolla, and inland Gyeongsang regions. Expected rainfall amounts are 5 to 60 mm in eastern Gyeonggi, Gangwon Yeongseo, Gwangju, and Jeonnam; 5 to 40 mm in Seoul, Incheon, western Gyeonggi, Chungcheong, Jeonbuk, Gyeongsang, and Jeju. Additionally, with easterly winds, 20 to 60 mm of rain may fall in Gangwon Yeongdong in the afternoon.
Typhoon Khanun (No. 6) passed 180 km northeast of Okinawa, Japan, as of 3 a.m. that day. The central pressure is 970 hPa, and the maximum wind speed is 35 m/s (126 km/h), maintaining a 'strong' intensity rating. Moving eastward at 9 km/h, Khanun is expected to turn northward toward Kyushu, Japan, from the 7th. It is forecasted to be located 140 km southeast of Busan around 3 a.m. on the 10th.
If the current forecast holds, Ulleungdo, Dokdo, and some parts of the East Coast are expected to fall within the storm radius where winds exceed 25 m/s from the typhoon center. Seoul is also included in the '70% probability radius of typhoon location' (the area where there is a 70% or higher chance the typhoon center will be located).
